More Information: The country's petrochemical industry is one of the most effective drivers in the field of development and national economy and by defining a 20-year vision, it promises to bring about change in the economic and social dimensions of Iran.
Shimi Baft Petrochemical Company was first established in 1373, then started its official activity in 1378 with the aim of producing MTBE strategic product and was put into operation as the second company producing this product in the country with a capacity of 45,000 tons in 1381. The second unit was produced in 2006 with the same capacity.
The feed to this complex includes four-carbon cutting (raffinite 1) and methanol and its products include butyl methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) as the main product and four-carbon cutting (raffinite 2) as a by-product.
MTBE as a gasoline octane booster and has the advantage of more complete gasoline combustion has an important role in significantly reducing emissions from vehicles.
Site two of this company (formerly Aria Tex Chemistry, which was merged with Baft Chemical Company in 2009) is also located in Site 2 of Bandar Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, which in 1392 was the first and only producer of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) in Iran. And the Middle East with a nominal capacity of 5,000 tons per year has started to work.
As an important commercial industrial solvent, MEK is widely used in refineries producing engine base oils, paint and resin industries, printing and synthetic leather.
The intermediate product of the company's second site is 2- butanol (SBA) and its by-product is raffinate 3 and heavy alcohol.
