More Information: Every day, we witness the increasing use of metal structures in most of the buildings constructed and under construction in our country, in which welding used and as the main technique for the bonding of known steel structures. Using of conventional welding techniques in joints requires observation of their principles and exact implementation, which, unfortunately, is not generally observed in Iran at present.
Inspection and supervision of proper welding of steel structures is very important in providing a structure stationarity under gravity loads and side loads such as earthquakes. According to available statistics and objective evidence, the failure and collapse of most steel structures in recent earthquakes in Iran have been due to weakness in their welding joints. Absence recruitment of skilled welders to fabricate metal constructions and their familiarity with the welding requirements and norms, and disrespect the basic principles of welding and absence of specialized organizations and teams for them monitoring, inspection and repairing has led to an ever-increasing number of defective and susceptible buildings to occur a big human catastrophe is far bigger and worse than an earthquake.
